This is me at the Cascada de Suenos.
This weekend we went back to Lago de Yajoa for some leadership training and dynamicas (games for embarrassing yourself and getting to know people a little better). The whole thing took place at a camp that’s setup for youth development. It’s a great idea for helping kids with self esteem and environmental awareness. One of the big problems with Honduras is motivation. There are opportunities here for education and empowerment but it is hard to get people to reach for them. This camp takes kids out into the wilds (something only 1 % of Hondurans do) and gives them an appreciation for the great outdoors and their own abilities. They have rafting trips, 10 day backpacking trips, rappelling, and ropes courses. One of the coolest things was that the director actually spent some time at the University of Idaho and studied with Mike Kinsiger (I know I’m butchering the spelling, sorry), one of my professors. He was a huge motivator for me and really pushed people to get outside and test themselves. It’s a small world and there are people who are reaching far off places and making lives better in the process, all for now. Much love to everyone. Joe
